Eco-Score Food Labeling

Interpret the Eco-Score (A–E) so sustainability metrics guide sourcing, menu planning, and brand advocacy.

Front-of-Pack (FOP) Nutrition and Processing Indicators

Eco-Score celebrates transparency—use it to reward brands sharing climate data, and remember that imperfect swaps still move household footprints in the right direction.

A — Dark Green

Exemplary environmental practices: regenerative or organic agriculture, low transportation footprint, recyclable packaging, and transparent sourcing.

B — Light Green

Strong sustainability profile with minor trade-offs. Often locally produced items with modest packaging or responsibly sourced ingredients.

C — Yellow

Average impact where improvements are possible—perhaps longer transport routes or conventional farming. Look for small swaps to raise the grade.

D — Orange

Notable environmental concerns such as energy-intensive production, heavy packaging, or limited traceability. Prioritise responsible portioning or occasional use.

E — Red

Highest footprint items with deforestation risks, air-freighted ingredients, or non-recyclable packaging. Consider alternatives or reduce frequency.

Curator's Notes
